sonnet

I watch the one star that carries your name.
It haunts me still though time is an ally.
Still I know that I am not without blame
And you are one not to easily cry.
Not very long ago this was our star
But love split two ways can’t hide in the night.
We both knew the price when love left its scar
And all we have now is this distant light.
What could have been if we only held on
would not survive when the day star broke.
Our nocturnal bliss was suddenly gone
and in fate’s different beds each one awoke.
Do you see me in clear midnight above
and wonder if I still feel the same love.
