The Hon’ble Minister of Tourism, Govt. of West Bengal and acclaimed theater personality Sri Bratya Basu will launch the book. Talented international translator Kiriti Sengupta brings the words of the celebrated Bengali poet Bibhas Roy Chowdhury to the English world with Poem Continuous – Reincarnated Expressions, published by Inner Child Press, Limited (New Jersey, U.S.A.) in association with Hawakaal Publishers (Kolkata, India). Brimming with another brilliant and exclusive round of Bengali poetry, Dr. Sengupta’s talent remains a unique source to bridge the beauty of Bengali poetry with the English language. His delicacy with both the intent and the output is evident as he once again delivers a modern poetic treasure of note.

Mr. Roy Chowdhury contributes fifty poems for translation, ranging from historical Bengali poet homages to current local events regarding civil strife in Bengal. His rich blend of local knowledge combined with his artistic use of his native language proves to be a winning combination. The expanded second edition of Poem Continuous – Reincarnated Expressions has an India release date of September 28th, 2015.

The first edition (India) of Poem Continuous was released on June 18th 2014, and the title had been declared ‘bestselling’ on Infibeam, one of the major online portals in India. Don Martin, who writes the foreword, has this to say about the book:
“… Poem Continuous is a literary tour-de-force which well-demonstrates that Bengali poetry can, in fact, be accurately and well translated…”

Dr. Sengupta uses his mastery of both languages to create a flawless transition from one language to the other. His eloquence in doing so is unmatched. What Dr. Sengupta is able to do is to actively promote and preserve an important and beautiful language by merging it with another important language.

Noted Bengali poets Subodh Sarkar, Rahul Purkayastha, Nilanjan Bandyopadhyay, and Nirmal Halder will grace the occasion and they will speak on Roy Chowdhury’s works. Rumpa Das, Associate Professor, Department of English, Mahestala College, and Vibha Malhotra, Founder, Literature Studio will be in conversation with Kiriti Sengupta.

Poet Bibhas Roy Chowdhury was born in the year 1968, in the terminal town Bongaon of West Bengal, India. He was one of the distinguished poets of the ’90s and is now an established poet in contemporary Bengali literature. His poems bear the characteristic features of the language of love, turmoil of the life of a poet, Partition of Bengal, and resplendent light of the lost lives. Although he has received many awards, he prefers to remain private.

Translator Kiriti Sengupta is a bilingual poet and translator in both Bengali and English. He is the author of three bestselling titles, My Glass of Wine, a novelette based on autobiographic poetry, The Reverse Tree, a nonfictional memoir and Healing Waters Floating Lamps, a collection of verses. Kiriti’s other works include: My Dazzling Bards (literary critique), The Reciting Pens (interviews of three published Bengali poets along with translations of a few of their poems), The Unheard I (literary nonfiction), and Desirous Water (poems by Sumita Nandy, contributed as the translator).
