It is nearing Christmas,
And the café is decked,
With light and balloons.
A Christmas tree stands at a corner,
And the stray which considers the café its home,
Lies under the tree.

A bunch of college kids,
Are celebrating a birthday.
There are shrieks of delight and boisterous cries.
The birthday girl cuts the cake,
And is chased down the aisle,
And plastered with cake all over her face.
There is backslapping and jokes cracked.

I watch this scene with,
A sense of poignancy and great joy.
Poignancy because soon they will,
Get lost in the thing called living.
And joy, because,
Sometimes the happiness of others,
Fills you with a heady joy.
