The policewoman and the journalist

By Kusum Choppra

The policewoman and the journalist
Made a strange couple.
She so glamorous
He so stodgy, lugging
Her bag and other paraphernalia.

She of the large round face
The ready smile, the obvious make up
That glitzy sari!
He in a sober striped corporate shirt
And a bulky belly.

Actually, perhaps the pair was
Almost opposite of what should be.
With that Hail-fellow-well-met facade
She’d have made
An excellent media person
To wiggle out juicy bits of
News from unwary tongues.
While his stout stodgy persona
Lent itself inevitably
To the seniority of a Babu.
