That girl in the yellow top

By Onkar Sharma

that girl in the yellow top once left me aghast.
came you like a gust of breeze and I was clutched in thy love, at last.

you met, and my life was filled with starlight.
you met, and my life turned into a pool of celestial delight.

amid the dilemma, didn’t we do thousand things forbidden?
concurrently gushed forth our lava of love that was forcefully pressed, hidden.

every text and every phone call felt like a soft, silken pearl.
oft it made me skip my heartbeat: such was the magic of the most beautiful girl.

that journey in the bus, that trip to the Yamuna bank
every time you said bye, my throat choked and my heart sank.

the sanctity of your velvety lips, the divine touch of your cheekbones
every thought of a life without you bit me but with a bolt of heavy stones!

have you heard of a heaven somewhere in the sky?
if it’s not as joyful as the journey of our love, it’s nothing but a plain, blatant lie.

you’re the blue sky, you’re the sacred clouds and those fields of grain
there, will I come every time hopping and whiz around you again and again and again.

that girl in the yellow top once left me aghast.
came you like a gust of breeze and I was clutched in thy love, at last.

###

Dedicated to my love, my better half – Rita – who inspires me and keeps me pushing the limits in every circumstance.
