How does God end this year’s story?

By: April Mae M. Berza

How does God end this year’s story
as He writes wars, disasters, famine
in the youthful pages of our own history?

Even religions kneel before the chapters of poverty,
the soil tillers weed out the lands with sin;
how does God end this year’s story?

Power is struggling to keep its sanity
God collapsed from writer’s block, coffee drinking
in the youthful pages of our own history.

How could man burn the language of tragedy
when they are in the caesura of pidgin?
How does God end this year’s story?

The souls of our books pray at the few pews loudly
while the books of our souls silently sing
in the youthful pages of our own history.

Consoling ourselves while in the library,
we ink a letter to the Supreme Being.
How does God end this year’s story
in the youthful pages of our own history?
