‘Your Wish is my Command’ and other poems
By: Tim Law
Your Wish is my Command
Here I sit
I fish for a fish
For a fresh fish dish
Is your only wish
Once your cravings
I could find at the shop
A midnight drive
A mid-morning stop
Gaytimes at night times
A hot chicken roll
A Chuppa Chupp
(Specifically, Strawberries and Cream)
If you did not get them soon
You were guaranteed to scream
The baby wants what the baby needs
You, my baby, your desire feeds
My love is ensured
By the appearance of food
No matter the when
Here we go again
So, I return with my prize
And only then realize
Tinned salmon on rye bread
Is what you meant to ask for instead
Back in the car I go
To demonstrate the love that you know
I have for you, through and through
And my undying adoration for our baby too
Wishful Thinking
The pool it has collapsed
I’m sorry to say
The legs were all rusted
The wind blew them away
How will we replace it?
When money is just so tight?
I know, I’ll ring the insurance company
I shall call them tonight
We can fix that
They tell me to my face
We can fix that before Christmas
They are setting a cracking pace
Curious, I make another call
Ring the company that will be doing it all
Replace the pool and fix the fence
I just want to make sure the timeline makes sense
They don’t laugh at my suggested date
They just say with kindness they will be late
At a week before Christmas everything shuts
They bombard me with their ifs and buts
I tell my wife the terrible news
We gambled, we tried, but we’re going to lose
No pool for us as the weather grows hot
A quick dip to cool off, sadly we will not
Be able to do with a pool so dry
And us with only questions of why
Promises given with no attempt to keep
It is enough to make a grown man weep
Trust not what the insurance companies say
“We shall have that fixed before Christmas Day!”
