Poem: Faces

By: Natana Vasuki

Faces
Faces! Faces! Pervasive in the world
Feed my sight every day
Gentle like frolicking lambs
Invite attention with their sweet innocence
Ferocious like majestic tigers
Ready to threaten with their powerful symmetry
Jaunty, amiable and ebullient
Serve people with their regal charisma
Pretty, fair-complexioned with sharp eyes
Tempt to steal the show of passion
Lo! The ones full of despair
Express melancholy as that of a cuckoo’s doleful cry
The modest countenances amidst the crowd
Show shades of accumulated wisdom
Show shades of accumulated wisdom
Some with acute sense of pride
With self-centered churlish gestures
Cunning profiles gleaming with foxy grins
Conspire some clandestine ways
Brimming with stoic expressions
Where one couldn’t decipher the meaning
Many with signs of ageing
Display the rhythm of love
Faces! Faces! Pervasive in the world
Win the hearts when they have smiles on them!
