Poem: Happiness
By: Zunayet Ahammed
After happiness
Comes sadness
When sadness exists
The past essence of happiness
Brings nothing, imparts nothing
Except intensifying sadness
Everything then seems murky
Dreams find no ways
Desire shrivels
The whiff of kamani appears meaningless
The floating beauty of the clouds in the sky
Seems bogus
All is lost
Everything is over
This feeling makes us dejected
Life always wants to escape sadness
Happiness doesn’t peep through its door
Death is the best then!
II
Forgetting all
Yet man dreams up a plan,
Wants to count the stars of the sky
And feels to go home through
The way of the white moonlight
Hearing Tagore’s songs.
