i fear for our country
each choice
seems like a bad choice
i pray that we don’t die because
of politician’s greed,
and i pray
for more tomorrows,
and a better future;
i pray because our country seems
to be ripping itself apart from
the inside out—
i pray because i don’t know how to
fix everything,
i pray because we all need hopes
and dreams and a reason
to live;
i pray because i believe
God is the only one
that can save us
from ourselves
i pray because i’m scared—
one morning i hope
i open my eyes,
and the tomorrow is better than
today.
