Poem: we need dreams
By: Linda M Crate
the menacing beak of
krakens
is what i wish for them
a monster they cannot run
from, a god unforgiving
and cruel as they are;
sating his hunger with their
bodies and their blood
so we can be freed of their
treachery and their greed—
i just want a world where
fear isn’t the ingredient
that causes legs to tremble
where buildings do no so easily
fall into dust
where rage and peril are not
so prevalent
a world where apathy isn’t
the saving grace of everyone
we need dreams not nightmares.
