Search for meaning

By Catherine Kusunoki

It was dark once again
in a world that was
supposed to be bright.
Fully consumed by negative thoughts
I set out to fight.

Vastly vain voices are heard
On the outside, my emotions
were covered by a mask
with the hope that nobody
had second thoughts to ask

My weakness was worrying substantially,
seeking validation from every person.
I ultimately believed in myself,
through joy and wide smiles,
and I finally felt free.
