Where big and small publishers hang around

After 3 successful years, Globalocal in its 4th year was held on an all new location. Strategically placed amidst the jaipur literature festivaland New Delhi Book Fair, Globalocal tried to play a platform which provided various opportunities to meet new business partners and interact with people from all over the world. It enabled publishers to maximize their experience and outreach in the Indian Publishing Industry.

The first day of Globalocal was marked by the opening speech by Pavan Kumar Verma, author and diplomat. It also witnessed the CEO Roundtable where 8 strategic decision makers from the publishing fraternity discussed about trend forecasting, latest business models etc.

Major speakers of the roundtable were Roberto Banchik Rothschild, director general, Random House Mondadori, Urvashi Butalia, publisher, Zubaan, India Juergen Boos, president, Frankfurt Book Fair, Germany Richard Charkin, Executive Director, Bloomsbury, UK Judith Curr, publisher, Atria Books (imprint Simon & Schuster NYC), USA M Anish Purohit, chief executive, Popular Prakashan Private Limited, India Bipin Shah, MD and publisher, Mapin, India and P .M. Sukumar, CEO of Harper Collins India, India.

Day 2 of the event was marked by the STM Roundtable conference with 6 major speakers from the industry. There was a workshop under the name ‘Rights and Licenses’, to discuss requirements/problems in the licensee’s market; check references for a licensee, suggest and agree to license terms, draw up an appropriate license contract (English language licenses) etc.

The event closure was marked by the closing speech of Claudia Kaiser, vice president, Frankfurt Book Fair.
