Poem: Balloon Child

By: Reese Scott
balloon child

Kissing while you are sleeping
over dreams that have been blessed
with fire
as dancers march in rigid steps
wallowing over minds and rings
over there
in the corner
sits a child
hat on tight blocking the sun
everything moves on by
he winces momentarily
then stares again
unblemished his hair
is high
as was his promise
now the time has passed
and he sits
cornered
urine colored stains
ingrained in his face
holding a balloon
that has faded and sunken
and has taken place
of face

there
