Poem: Leslie’s Teeth
Winter is coming
as I look out my window
I can see the snow
my radiator is turned on
and as always
my arms are tied
tight
behind my back
the food is in the refrigerator
and all the utensils are prepared
the only thing missing
is the match to
Ignite
the
light
I wait for
the ring of
the bell
and the red of her
lips
so I can paint
her
tight against me
as she
holds me
with the wires
we have chosen
to wear
and our dogs always
play
without
leashes
I love watching her bathe
and when she asks for my
breath
I no longer
wait
last winter
she bought my
birth
certificate
now
she owns
a car
it has room for
one
but we fit two
I like her
hair as it falls
out the doors
she cuts corners
hard
and makes sure
I were a seat belt
my eyes stay closed
till the wheels
stop
so I know
we are home
and I can make dinner
with her
without cooking
anything
but what
god
has given
us
for
one
another
