Poem: You and Him
By: Sam Rapth
It was in those moments
when your palm quickly drifted
from under his,
that I entered the room…
In an unpredictable fraction of a second
I actually had seen it
But pretended not to notice…
I did not see
the ring that I wore
in one of your beautiful petal-like
fingers on the day of our marriage…
I turned my eyes blind on that too
as I knew of the various fake reasons
that you might come up with…
I pretended as if I have forgotten
the day you introduced him to me
as your friend…
I imagined what it would had been
If I were your friend and
he was your husband…
Everything was in place except
for a statement of separation
from the family court…
Wow. Poignant and sad. At least the narrator gave it a try. =(
