Winter Images

Winter winds
and icicles at dawn
Parades of snowmen
in family groupings
Wrapped in scarves
and derby hats
Holiday grog
and festive evenings
As carolers serenade
the yuletide season
Flasks hidden
in inside coat pockets
A nip against
the cold winter chill
Frozen lakes
filed with boats and skaters
And fishing huts in rows
haphazardly defined
Twinkling lights
draped over reindeer
And chimneys readied
for Santa’s descent
As milk and cookies
laid out in dreamland
And letters are written
with crayons and pens
Cold weather breathing
clouded with breath
Happiness abounding
filled with children’s laughter
As skiers descend mountains
and sleigh rides race to the end
Winter coats and mittens
bring warmth through the day
And cozy fires and hot chocolate
prepare for the night
The joyous winter season
together just right

Winter Images

Winter chills
Bring frosty noses
Clouds of vapor
With every breath

Warm cozy sweater
Mittens and mufflers
Warming the fingers
And covering chests

The sounds of winter
Like carolers singing
And Santa’s elves
Making merry delights

Skiers on mountains
Racing snow-covered pathways
Steaming hot chocolate
And cinnamon treats

Sleigh bells forever
Ringing like laughter
Prisms of sunlight
Making rainbows on ice

Mem’ries of childhood
Sifted like flour
Through icicles hanging
From rooftops and trees

Holiday turkeys
A feast of Thanksgiving
And Christmas baked cookies
For children and Saint Nick

Sleigh rides and laughter
A bountiful pleasure
Snowmen and angels
A joy to display

Fall colors remembered
Where leaves once abounded
Now empty and barren
Bare branches where icicles hang

Cold winter mornings
Bring days filled with sunshine
Another reminder
The new year’s begun

Long winter days
Wrapped in a blanket
Warm winter clothes
Against winter chills

Seasonal pastimes
And cold weather daydreams
The happy reminders
Winter images bring
