Poem: A Cookie As Smooth as Butter

I couldn’t help
eating the last
shortbread cookie from the jar

I knew that its rich flavor
that melts in your mouth
like a spoon of butter
is your favorite
midday tea-time snack

Please forgive me
for it was perfect
with my afternoon cup
of hot milk tea

I could not resist
eating the cookie
that was crisp on the outside
while soft and yellow on the inside

Susmita Bhat spends her weekends raking horse manure. To clarify, she enjoys working with patients and horses at an equine-assisted therapy center. While she isn’t cleaning up horse stables, she often can be found reading mystery novels, bullet journaling, and biking.
