By John Hansen

Poetry is never subservient.
It is bright flashes of light,
breaking the restraints of conformity.
The elements of human nature bare
on a beautiful pallet—formed into meaningful
Poetry is a fragrance of extreme delight.

John Hansen received a BA in English from the University of Iowa and MA in English Literature from Oklahoma State University. He has completed several projects and publications involving Frederick Douglass, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Friedrich Nietzsche, Middle English, non-fiction, and poetry. John’s hobbies include golf, tennis, running, basketball, and vacuuming. He is English Faculty at Mohave Community College.

  1. A poem about poetry is an interesting take. The prose is executed well and the imagery captures what poetry is all about. Very inspiring!

  2. I really enjoyed the poem, it came in a time were we can all focus in something more beautiful and meaningful in life. Poetry.
