I used to say often
‘There’s no dream for us’,
You bend your ivory face
With a half serious smile,
The room is a world
With finer walls and no common
Windows, did we know then?
It is not necessary
We roam as in our
Sweet sixteen, careless, mad
Of this careless world
Munching nuts or roses,
It is not even necessary
You hiss and be a fire-spitting
Dragon, make me afraid,
There are simple reasons to love,
There are simpler reasons to hate,
Together we make this
Forbidden sea, this world
Of the rooms, floating
With that half serious smile
Never to dream and depart.
