Poem: Rain drops

By: Milt Montague

raindrops

tears of the gods
mourning their creation
their ultimate achievement
the final opus and crowning glory
an utter disaster

they loved creating
the varied species of life
then dispersing them all over
both above and below the surface
of their only world

their masterpiece
fashioned last with all
their knowledge and newly
acquired experience with living
breathing creatures

their crowning glory
was given a unique gift
far above and way beyond
all of earth’s other inhabitants
intellect and free will

including obstinacy
leading them to ignore
the obvious scientific facts
and allowing the planet to plunge
into self extermination
