Search for meaning

By: Ananya S Guha

Darkness descends even as it is day
Is darkness a colour meant only for the night?

Strange October silences
As winter whispers- I am arriving
Only the scattered leaves say that autumn
Has already come, another season

But winter is not another season
It is memory unfurling in ghosts
Piqued with night’s long associations
Winter is long memory extending into
Childhood, school and examinations

Every year when winter comes
It unfurls wraith like appearances
Question after question and the water
In lakes freeze, as childhood sun burnt
Evokes past

And winter…
