”Love in the fast lane” and other poems

By: Debbie Tunstall

1) Love in the fast lane

You worked at the ‘ used car ‘ dealership
when you sold me your love, discounted to half the price-
And I bought it.

After a quick test drive, and a signature on the dotted line, there it was.
A dashboard warning sign,
I was sold.

2) What should have been

When life threw me a lemon
I made it with a smile,
told myself to get on with it
rised to the occasion.
Here you are placed towards incapable hands;
dependent on unconditional love.
Here I am,
frauding my way through motherhood, You were never mine to begin with.

3) Boys

Always something to touch;
A nerve
Something that’s not quite yours,
Moulding my body
Through unwanted fingers.

I am not yours.
My body mimics the stars,
Untouchable.
