Poem: Alice
By: Milt Montague
Evey and Eddy
we join you in mourning
as you sit shiva
for your dear mother
I remember….
I’ve known her over 60 years
a nice Jewish girl from Brooklyn
raised in a modest home
with traditional values
falling in love with a
nice Jewish boy from Brooklyn
with the same values
[my brother-in-law, Ruby, was
tall, handsome and very bright]
I remember…..
we too were raised
in the same background
Brooklyn during the 1930s
I remember…..
later working crazy hours
but making time to
drive over to see them
and their two lovely kids
I remember….
Alice’s smiling face
she always made
a good cup of coffee
I remember Alice……
