Poem: Spread the Word

By: JD DeHart

Spread the word

The word is suddenly
A filet, indelicately butterflied.
The word is suddenly
The prospective worker eviscerated
By the pomposity of interviewers.
Let us show you our two question-one
Question punch, they declare.
Waste of paper products for degrees.
Waste of water and earth,
Slapping of lips, mastication.
Waste of the word, spread out before
Us, a beleaguered pin-up girl,
A sea captain tired of salt halfway
Through his journey, a teacher giving
Up in the middle swing of a lesson.
