Poem: National Poetry Day

By: C. J. Black

(8th October 2015.)

Today being designated as that day
I have just two things to say
Whatever it is be forth right
Press the calm button, then write.

But then again being a writer, once you start
It’s hard to know when to stop, but take heart
There are many more in the same boat
Just keep an eye out for them, taking note.

For inspiration can come from any quarter
You may partly copy – perhaps alter?
What your favourite poet has written
They might even read it and be quite smitten?

You have given life to a poem for this special day
There is really nothing more left for me to say
Except knuckle down to the task in hand
Write that poem which you had not pre-planned.
