Poem: Cul-de-sac
By: Sasheera Mehrani Gounden
Your lauded visage is to perfection
Retinue to exalt
Your lighthouse sight is the aroma of treacly solitude
Saccharine scent to seep Hydrogen Sulfide
Contaminating my senses
Twined as a foetus
To writhe under the microscope
Taut skin plucked apart
A fleeting swallowed embrace
The thought of you to entice the mind
I picture you,
Dear Phalanges,
Peeking beneath white tulles of skirt
A deformed Rubik’s Cube
For architects to liquefy
The improbable result
The insufferable snowman
Yet you remain
A tidy sum of x
However unsolvable
As the buoyant bouquet of jazz
