‘Lazy Sunday’ and other poems
By: Tim Law
Lazy Sunday
Sleep in
Breakfast in bed
Nothing to do
But spend time with you
Maybe watch a movie
Or catch up on some rest
Lazy Sundays with nothing planned
These are the days I love the best
I turn to me and smile
Giving me that twinkle-eyed look I love the most
What do I want to do?
Whatever we do I want to do it with you
The evening comes around too fast
Wishing that this day would last
Tomorrow is still ages away
Let us simply enjoy today
Lazy Sundays
Just whiling our time away
Together with you
What more is there to say?
Walking the Dog
Mortisha, heel!
Come
Slow down
The leash is all wrapped up
Stop acting the clown
Get out of the water
No! Don’t shake yourself so close to me
Now you’ve stopped to smell that bush
How did I know you were going to pee?
Go run-off some of that puppy energy
Meet your friends
As I greet mine
Now come on back to me
Why do I need to catch you?
Why won’t you heed my call?
Why do you pull? You never heel
You almost make me fall
Crazy dog, you walk too fast
Our time together will never last
A simple trip to the pond
Becomes a mission for James Bond
I’m shaken, I’m stirred, I’m all spun about
My voice it grows hoarser each time that I shout
I call your name until my voice is none
And we stumble home with the setting sun
Mortisha my darling
You crazy dog
I vow I’ll never take you walkies again
Instead let’s both go for a jog
Cloud Gazing
Look up there
Is that a bear?
It’s a grizzly standing upon a chair
I see a pig
It is wearing a wig
As the wind blows gently, we watch it dance a jig
You see a dragon who is chasing a fish
Does it want to be friends? Or does it seek a fresh fish dish?
I tell you the story is yours, whatever you wish
Donkeys kick, and mules do bray
“Look over there…” I begin to say
But you no longer wish to stay
“Please take me home,” I hear you plea
You no longer desire to hang out with me
There is so much more in the clouds to see
But our sky gazing time has now come to a close
Will we do this again? Nobody knows?
The disease has spread all the way up from your toes
The dreaded C
How I wish it had been me
I don’t know what to do to set you free
So, we look at the sky
Wondering why
You my poor darling are doomed to die
