popularity contest

in high school i always wanted
to be one of the cool kids
fit in with the popular ones and be part
of the coolest cliques,
and i wanted so badly to be anyone
but me;
i forgot my own worth
started to believe all their cruel lies
hated myself for the longest
time—
now i’m glad i never fit in
that i was a misfit
because i was born to stand out in a world
that copies and mimics i’ll always be
the orange thread in a sea of
blue
and the yellow crocus in a
sea of purple
a white raven amid the black winged crows,
but i’ll never regret who i am ever
again
because i am an original and i was meant to be
me for everyone else is taken;
don’t care if i fit in
no, not anymore.
