‘Black, White, and Grey’ and other poems

By: Tim Law

Black, White, and Grey

Black is black and white is white
Too many people think that such is right
I am one to disagree
To argue against society

I choose not to just fit in
To see fat as fat, and thin as thin
I wish not to argue this
To mumble something, you’ll simply dismiss

Because I do not agree with you
When you said that I had to
When you refused to see
To listen and try to understand me

I have learned to see your way
But it does not mean we will agree today
Instead, I’ll continue to interpret the world as grey
Patiently waiting for the day

When everybody will see the same
That promised day which never came
So black and white the world does stay
All the while I just see grey

Colors

Growing up my life was green
Full of fun and such
Later, there was orange and blue
But that did not change too much

Now I’m older I can see
That grey is such a good color on me
The way that life has taken a turn
It is time that I accept and learn

My days of fun have been and gone
Heart beats lonely, all forlorn
I wish someone would bring the color back
Let me see the rainbow instead of black

Alas, I fear, my choice is slow
To watch joy on a TV show
To experience life’s joy and fun
Vicariously through my two daughters, and my son

Plucking Feathers

Falling from the sky
Never knowing why
The eagle and the sparrow
Both tumble like a marrow

Dead is dead
That is what the raven said
But shouldn’t he know
That even alive, birds fall like snow

They glide and they float
And sometimes they gloat
While I am stuck here
Bound by my fear

Don’t send me up there
High up into the air
For I have found
I much prefer my feet on the ground

If one does not rise
Then we don’t get told lies
And then, unlike an arrow
We shan’t fall as the sparrow

Instead, we are found
Plucking feathers on a mound
From the birds who did try
Leaving us wondering why

Why try, only to die?
Maybe I should dream more of the sky
Then I can show those whom I love
It is possible to live amongst the angels up above
