Literary Yard

Hot summer morning
An old couple stand quietly
Looking out the screen door
Into the front yard garden
Suddenly like magic
A hummingbird appears
Iridescent green feathers
Shining in the golden sun
She darts here and there
Feeding on purple coneflowers
Yellow rudbeckia
And candy colored phlox
She is a joy
Flitting through the garden feeding
Unexpectedly
She darts to them
Hovering closely for a moment
Checking them out
Delighting them with her antics
Then she speeds off
Gone in a blink of the eye moment
Leaving behind two smiles
And a special memory
Of a rare moment in time
When a little bird
Charmed two old people
Unconditionally.
