‘Apposite’ and other poems
By: KJ Hannah Greenberg
Apposite
Ever apt per circumstances, select acts prove themselves as
Never ending reminders of moments when troubles, elsewise
Stormed against personal citadels, nearly smash to smithereens.
In relationship to squatted trucks as well as budding ramie plants,
Binned dreams seem like gilded trinkets sparkling in sunshine when
Other baubles oxidize given no intervening moisture nor temperature.
All in all, happy changes, not sorrowful ones, cause the human tribe to
Genuflect to various pashes, money and time, inclusive. Sundry bilious
Choices exist far from anodyne, ordinarily provoke offense, cly concord.
Semel
Once, you remembered my inflorescence as including not merely my legs and chest
But also my heart, my mind, my soul.
There was no rush, no self-gratification, no move to meet only your needs when we
Fit together in concurrence.
Thereafter, though, a gulch deepened; the more you pote, the more I hurt. Like kebs
The world over, I cried.
You can’t coft love nor efficaciously pretend that treating a partner like a slattern no
More than ruins.
Loquacious
Some buddies are talkative. Despite our wishes that they’d
Catch a bubble, or take a breath, their need for mental
Stimulation overreaches that of conures.
Their semantic roaning breaks most patterned discourse.
Unfettered by public duties or oppositional vitriol,
Such persons bark until all mim’s exhausted.
Even invective-laden language fails to deter their verbal
Salvos, their numerous linguistic submunitions,
Their Elefantenrennen during social events.
Mostly, we ignore demagogic people “gaining rankings”
By appealing to emotions, prejudices, and fears. We’ve
No resources for stodgy, self-centered others.
